REGISTRATION

Can I register offline this year?
Can I send / mail / deliver a printed copy of the registration forms?

No. All participants must register online.

I started to register online but my Pre-Fair Report is not ready yet. Can I still register?
It is very important to wait and register when your Pre-Fair Report is complete. However, the registration deadline is earlier for 2004 (March 5th). Please try to have your Pre-Fair Report ready when you register on-line. If that is not possible, you may state that your Observations and Conclusions are in progress and not complete at the time of registration. This means that the judges will not have a complete Pre-Fair Report to look at before the fair and will not be able to see your results until you present your project to them at the fair. However, you will get the proper credit for submission of a Pre-Fair Report.

You MUST include the Project type, Title of exhibit, Question/Hypothesis and Design/Method in your Pre-Fair Report for your registration to be accepted.

Can I send / mail / deliver cash for the registration fee?
No. Only send a cheque or money order.

I don't have an email address for registration. What can I do?
    (1) obtain a free one
(clicking on this next link will get you to a hotmail.com account web page)
(clicking on this next link will get you to a Yahoo email account web page)
    (2) use a parent's email address
    (3) use the school's email address
    (4) use a science teacher's email address
    (5) use a friend's email address

Only one student per project needs to have an email address.

I did not indicate that I needed electricity when I registered, but now I need it. What do I do now?
Contact FLASF Hotline and leave your name, project title and we will make every effort to arrange for electricity.
It may NOT be possible to make changes after the registration period is over.

JUDGING

If I have a partner, do both of us have to be present for judging?
YES.

Can my parents answer questions while the judges are interviewing me?
Absolutely not.

SAFETY

Does 'no animals' in the Safety rules mean I cannot bring my snake for my project?
Absolutely no animals / reptiles / living entities are allowed in the fair.

Do I need permission from anyone to do a survey involving people?
see: "Regulations for Research Involving Human Subjects" in Safety document for complete details

"Human research refers to any project which involves the generation of data about persons beyond that which is necessary for the person's well-being. This includes non-invasive methods such as: surveys, interviews, observations of, or field work with, individuals, administration of psychometric and other tests, examination of records, and exercise testing. It may also involve invasive procedures..."

"Participants must give informed consent to participate in any science fair project before it begins, and this is normally obtained in writing. Parental approval is required for the participation of minors as research subjects."

Participants should consult the YSF safety documents (see links on first page of this web site or go to www.ysf.ca for additional information).

OTHER ISSUES

My project is bigger than I thought it would be. Can I have a second table?
FLASF rules dictate that projects cannot exceed a certain maximum size. Please plan ahead when creating your project.

Why can't I switch my project to a different table?
The organizing committee assigns specific judges to evaluate your project. If you are not at your assigned table when the judges appear, then your project may not be evaluated. The judges do not have time to look for you.

I have a hockey game at 10:00 Saturday morning so I need to be judged Friday night. Can my partner talk to the judges on my behalf?
If you did a project with a partner, BOTH of you must be present during all judging. Please make plans to be available during the entire fair. Because of the organization involved in assigning over 200 judges specific times based on their areas of expertise, judging times will NOT be changed.

I won't be able to get a ride to the Fair until 7:00 on Friday night. Will that be too late?
Safety checks take place between 4:00 and 6:00 on Friday night. Your project MUST pass the safety check before you can be judged. In addition if you have not registered on time, the judges who were to have evaluated your project will be assigned to other projects. Please talk to your family and/or teacher beforehand to make arrangements to arrive on time.
