Poster pages on the backboard are loosely attached and/or not
laminated.
Project information is presented as loose sheets of paper on the
exhibit table.
(The various aspects of the research; hypothesis, description of the study, results, any certificates, and conclusions should be held in a binder.)
Parts of the experiment on display that are not allowed.
(The rules clearly indicate that things like chemicals, microbial cultures, animal parts, and the like should not be on display. You are encouraged to take photographs of any such materials and include these photographs in your experiment presentation materials.)
CSA approved electrical devices from manufacturer have been modified
- this negates the CSA stamp of approval and so device cannot be used or
demonstrated.
(Even the slightest modification of a manufacturer's CSA approved device means it is no longer CSA approved. You might be able to get this approval before the Canada Wide Science Fair, but it would involve a separate inspection and might mean many weeks delay.)
Flammable "stuff" is crammed underneath the exhibit table.
(Any fire risk materials such as display packing cardboard boxes, etc., must be stored elsewhere and NOT in the exhibit hall or under your exhibit. A storage spot for all shipping and packing crates will be provided.)
A display exceeds the size regulations (height, width or depth).
(See regulations regarding allowable dimensions and the exceptions to the rule.)
Title board is made of a material not acceptable for fire safety
reasons.
(The rules for the title board construction material are exactly the same as for the backboard, in terms of which materials are acceptable.)
There is a difference of opinion about the interpretation of the
safety and display rules at the local or regional science fair, compared to the
national Canada Wide Science Fair.
(At the Canada Wide Science Fair all exhibits must conform to the Youth Science Foundation of Canada regulations, so make sure you check the latest YSFC regulations. The Chair of the National Science Fair Committee - NSCF - is the final authority on any safety rule decision.)
